What’s
this all about?
The purpose of Bring YourSELF to Work Day is to create an
annual working day when people can be more “present”
and more fully self-expressed in their work places. By taking
part you will have permission to be more fully your authentic
self by showing others more of who you are outside your
work life and by sharing more of your dreams and aspirations
with others at work.
The effect of your doing this will be to give others permission
to be more self expressed too, unveiling the common underpinning
we all share beneath bringing out the rich diversity of
people and teams in our work places. A greater appreciation
will grow of what we can bring to the job and to each other.

Taking part in the Bring yourself to work day is a huge
human experiment! When you fully express your complete self
you will immediately access more of your personal reserves
of energy, creativity, joy, trust and generosity. In work
you will be more engaged, more motivated and less alienated.
You will become a more trusted team player, making more
creative contributions to the teams of which you are a part;
and you will be more productive. You could find it easier
to respond to demands and problems from customers and colleagues,
because you will find it easier to empathise and come up
with creative solutions.
All this applies to any of us. As we learn to be more authentic
with our colleagues they respond too, they cannot help it.
If you become a champion of these ideas in your work place,
not only will you improve your own relation to your work,
you will start a process that will improve things for everyone
else too. In this way whole work places have become transformed
through the committed action of just a few people.
If you take part in Bring YourSELF to Work Day
you will be doing so to feel you have grown from the experience,
to feel more engaged and motivated on the job, and to feel
closer to your team. And you will naturally want these feelings
to endure beyond the day itself. They will, to the extent
that it’s more likely to happen if you fully engage
and encourage your colleagues to do the same.
Over time, employers or bosses should be able to measure
the improved productivity and notice the benefits, so make
sure they know about the Bring YourSELF to Work Day campaign
and that you will be taking part. They should also be able
to see and hear evidence of your success in the talk and
buzz around the office and the shop floor.
Most important of all though, you will have taken a massive
step towards changing the orientation of your self to your
work. Work will no longer be merely a means to an end, but
will have started to become a place where you have made
it possible to give full expression to what you are as a
human being. You will no longer have to have one face in
work and another in the home (no longer like Eleanor Rigby
keeping a face in a jar by the door). If you like this idea,
register now.
